It's a rule of thumb, of course, but somewhat useful when advising buyers of used pianos, to explain to them that many pianos will have very little usable musical life left in them after they turn 50. Is it staying enough above the fray, to mention that this Kimball is pushing 50 pretty hard? Hey- no need to be so mean about it I am pushing 70 pretty hard, myself. On the other hand, when it comes to certain brands of pianos, you can love em' or hate em', or a combination of the two to each their own. Also, I owned one for a period of time, and enjoyed it while I owned it not that I'm an authority on any particular brand of pianos. Not wanting to get into a debate or argument, but just stating what little I know about the Kimball Viennese grand models. Of course, I'm sure that Kimball was likely the primary beneficiary of that co-ownership venture, while it lasted. I know some people don't particularly like that bit of history, and say that Kimball had no influence on Bosendorfer at the time, and vise-versa, but just take a look at the cast iron plate on a Kimball Viennese grand piano and then look at the plate on a similar sized Bosendorfer grand at the time, and notice the resemblance. It depends on the individual piano, I would imagine.Īs for the Kimball Viennese model grands, build from the late 1970s through the early 1990s, they were made during the time when the parent company, who owned Kimball, also owned Bosendorfer. I wouldn't go so far as to say all Kimball pianos are trash, or have little or no value.
